Good news for employment in Quebec and the rest of Canada. According to the latest Statistics Canada data, the unemployment rate in Quebec stands at 4.5% for November 2021, the same as in February 2020 before the pandemic. There were 45,500 jobs created in November in Quebec (+ 1.1%). The unemployment rate fell by 1.1 percentage points. Quebec is the province with the lowest unemployment rate in the country.
Across Canada, we can note an employment increase of 154,000 (+ 0.8%) in November, as well as an unemployment rate that fell to 6%. According to Statistics Canada, employment increased 0.8% last month across the country. This is the sixth consecutive monthly drop in the unemployment rate in Canada since March 2021.
In contrast, for Canada as a whole, the unemployment rate has not returned to the pre-pandemic level. In fact, in February 2020, Canada had an unemployment rate of 5.6%.
