“King Mohammed VI has the great pleasure of announcing to the Moroccan people that the FIFA Executive Committee has just unanimously accepted the Morocco-Spain-Portugal file as the sole candidacy for the organization of the 2030 World Cup football,” the press release announced.
The King addresses, on this occasion, “his congratulations to the Kingdom of Spain and the Republic of Portugal, while reiterating the commitment of the Kingdom of Morocco to work in perfect synergy with the authorities in charge of the file in each of the host countries “.
This statement states that after “extensive consultations with all confederations and taking into account the importance of marking the centenary of the FIFA World Cup™, the FIFA Council has taken key decisions regarding the candidacy and the the organization of the centenary edition of the FIFA World Cup in 2030, during its meeting held by videoconference from FIFA headquarters. In 2030, the FIFA World Cup will bring together three continents and six countries, inviting the whole world to join in the celebration of the beautiful game, the Centenary and the FIFA World Cup itself. The FIFA Council unanimously agreed that the only bid would be the combined bid of Morocco , Portugal and Spain, who will host the event in 2030 and automatically qualify from existing slots, subject to the completion of a successful bidding process led by FIFA and a decision by the FIFA Congress in 2024.
FIFA says three South American countries Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay will each host a 2030 World Cup match; hence the expression “three continents and six countries (Morocco, Spain, Portugal, Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay)”. Remember that Uruguay hosted the first World Cup in 1930.
